Oxford Mail: Sam Townsend with his 48lb common carp from Linear Fisheries’ Stanton Harcourt complex Sam Townsend with his 48lb common carp from Linear Fisheries’ Stanton Harcourt complex

A new Linear Fisheries complex record for a common carp has been set by Sam Townsend with a superb 48lb specimen from Oxlease Lake at the Stanton Harcourt big-fish venue.

Sam Townsend, from Stroud in Gloucestershire, used Nash rods, Shimano reels, Korda terminal tackle with Mainline pineapple hookbaits fished over Mainline boilies.

It beat the previous mark of 47lb 5oz held by the same fish.

THE fifth North Oxford AS summer series canal match was contested by 12 anglers on the Oxford Canal at Aristotle Lane.

Pegged on the weeping willow above Walton Well Road, Maurice Winstone was pestered by a pike in his swim for the entire match, but managed to net perch up to 2lb on chopped worm for a winning 9.5.8.

Tony Krason also used worm for 7.12.8 of skimmers and perch for second place, while Dave Scott-Picton was third with 6.3.8 of skimmers and roach on bread.
