Dan Rivers was edged into second place in the English Small-bore Shooting Union Championships at Bisley.

The defending champion, from Didcot, was beaten by great rival Kenny Parr.

The duo were last month both called into the England Commonwealth Games squad for this summer’s champion-ships in Glasgow.

They were well clear of their competitors, but Parr always held the upper hand, event-ually winning by almost nine points with a total of 445.

Oxford University will bid to regain Varsity honours when they take on Cambridge next Saturday in the seventh clay shooting contest.
