ARDINGTON & Lockinge are still in with a shout for the North Berks League Division 1 title after two important wins, writes PHIL ANNETS.

On Saturday, they were 3-2 victors at title rivals Kintbury Rangers.

Charlie Allsop twice levelled for Kintbury, but goals from Ollie O’Hanlon, Tom Rowe and Jonny Eudell took the points.

And Ardingtion kept up the pressure with a 5-1 victory over Saxton Rovers last night to go top of the table.

However, Kintbury can still claim the crown if they win their game in hand.

Saxton Rovers lost 3-2 at Long Wittenham Athletic on Saturday, with Frankie Haines and Louis Bloomfield scoring their goals. Strikes by JR Willis, Tim Barton and Lewis Monaghan gave Wittenham a winning finish ahead of next week’s North Berks Cup final against Dorchester.

In Division 2, an Aaron Andrews double preserved Abingdon United Res’ unbeaten record as they won 2-1 at home to Faringdon Town Res.

A 2-0 win over Wantage Town A last night sealed the title for Abingdon.

Westminster are out of the Division 3 promotion places after losing 6-3 at Burghclere, who sealed the title.

Jason Hillis, Dean Staniford and Tim Slater scored for Westminster, while Kye Franklin netted a hat-trick for the hosts, alongside goals for Robert O’Hagan, Alistair Baillie and Matt Howe. Stanford in the Vale kept up their hopes of the runners-up spot with a 6-0 thumping of Benson Lions. Josh Vaughan bagged a brace, while Jamie Gregory, Brad Gill, David Griffin and Kieran McCarthy scored to leave them one point behind Kintbury Rangers Res.

In Division 4, Jay Morris netted four times for Kennington Athletic in a 7-3 win at Ardington & Lockinge Res.

Matt Crossan, Alex Cross-an and Stuart Dunham also found the net, while Adam Bruce (2) and Ollie Bailey netted in vain for the hosts. Long Wittenham Athletic Res won 6-4 at Hagbourne United, with doubles from Andy Sutherland and Jay Mace alongside goals from Joe Chedzey and Richard Jarvis.

Mason Churton (3) and Jake Strong notched for Hagbourne. Richard Evans bagged a brace for Faringdon Town A in their 3-1 home win over Berinsfield Res.

Mark Simpkins netted Faringdon’s third while Robert Lee replied.

Uffington United were crowned Division 5 champions, despite not kicking a ball as rivals Stanford in the Vale Res lost 3-2 at home to Didcot Eagles, Tyrone Mayall and Gary Clements scoring for Vale.

* WANTAGE Town A lost to Penn & Tylers Green Res on penalties in the Berks & Bucks Junior Cup final.

After a goalless two hours, Penn won 4-3 in the shoot-out.
