ASHLEY Rump made hosts Hook Norton pay dearly for an early dropped catch by leading Charlbury to a 106-run victory on the first day of the season, writes DAVID QUINN.

The opener was put down off just the second ball of the Division 1 match before going on to make 102 as his side posted 215.

Ollie Hollings then tore into the home side’s top order, claiming 4-32.

Bimalka Liyanarachchi weighed in with 3-28 as Hook Norton mustered 109, Melvin Riley top-scoring with 44.

Great Horwood openers Tom Spurr and Stuart Parker shared a club-record stand of 321 in a 99-run Division 1 victory over Shrivenham.

Spurr smashed a sensational 189 not out, with Parker hitting 94 as their side racked up a huge 322-1 – the duo falling agonisingly short of batting their way through the whole innings.

Shrivenham, who are looking to go one better than last season when they ended runners-up, responded positively with Rhys Mills racking up 70 and Rob Wycherley 55 not out.

But they never looked like reaching their target, finishing on 223-7.

Garsington’s Abid Karim took 7-26 as visitors Oxenford were skittled for just 85.

Despite some early jitters and 4-38 from Zahid Khan, the home side won by five wickets in the 24th over.

Coming in at No 9, James Merriman lashed 52 not out as Minster Lovell set hosts Chadlington 174.

Danny Harding hit 40, but Chadlington were dismissed for 111, Jack Simpson (3-7) and Eddie Dunn (3-15) doing the damage.

Despite 6-33 from East & West Hendred’s Martin Turnbull, a knock of 72 from Darren Jones enabled Radley to post 174 in their Division 2 clash.

In a tense affair, the visitors were then restricted to 154-9, Charlie Mulford top-scoring with 42, while Atif Liaquat recorded 4-28.

James Brown (50) and Tim Wyatt (48) helped Stonesfield amass 200-5 in their 45 overs against Watlington.

Tom Gubbins then took 6-33 as the visitors were shot out for a mere 88.

Only one player in the Combe line-up managed double figures, yet the 45 not out scored by Steven Dobson saw his team to a five-wicket triumph over visitors Tetsworth.

Robbie Nicholson’s 5-12 meant Tetsworth had laboured to 73 all out.

Clifton Hampden looked in trouble when setting Faringdon 115, Richard Beard and Chris Freeman making 31 apiece.

However, 3-22 from Laurence Harvey, together with a couple of crucial run outs, curtailed the host’s innings at 87.

Chipping Norton won by five wickets at Broughton & North Newington.

The hosts were dismissed for 123 after being put in, Stuart Walton hitting 33 and Martin Elliott taking 3-27.

Wantage’s Barry Martin blasted 109 in his side’s 237 all out at home to Eynsham in Division 3.

The visitors made a spirited response with half-centuries from Patrick Arnold (66) and Rory Thompson (56no), but fell 16 runs short.

With six players failing to trouble the scorers, Fringford capitulated to 42 all out against Chesterton, Steve Lewis shone with 6-9.

Chesterton won by ten wickets in less than eight overs.

Westcott recorded a comfortable five-wicket win at Cairns Fudge.

Alimar Khan (4-14) and George Dalton (4-26) did the damage as Fudge were dismissed for 80, before Alimar Khan’s 31 led Westcott home.

Witney Swifts won by 67 runs at Marsh Gibbon after setting 141, Grant Madden top-scoring with 31.

Charlie Shipperley (3-26) and Sat Vadivale (3-36) starred, but Shipperley’s 35 with the bat failed to save defeat, with Graeme Woodward (3-11) and Andy Purdie (3-17) on song.

The forecast was Snow at Swinbrook as James and Alex starred with the bat in their side’s 170-run victory over West Ilsley in Division 4.

James Snow smashed 183 not out and Alex 68 not out as the hosts racked up 323-3.

Jack Morland then ripped through the visitors with 7-54 as they were dismissed for 153, Rob Lawson contributing 45.

Hanborough beat Charlbury 2nd by 109 runs, David Rose taking 5-11 and Aaron Holley 4-19.

Earlier, Rob Lovick provided 66 of Hanborough’s 171-7, Eleanor Norton claiming 4-42 for Charlbury.

A thrilling Division 5 battle saw ten-man Kennington go down to a 13-run defeat at home to Garsington 2nd.

Simon Palmer took 5-17 and Graham Rowley 4-34 as Garsington were bowled out for 92.

But Arshad Mehmood (4-15) and Saqib Miohammed (3-19) starred with the ball as Kennington’s failure to put out a full team proved costly.

Gary Rowles claimed 6-38 as West Witney bowled hosts Oxford Rescue and Cassington out for 92.

Opener Omar Tariq then scored 42 as the visitors won by six wickets.

Steventon limped to a three-wicket win over Westbury 2nd in Division 6, despite only needing 68.

Will Woodward took 5-12 to give the visitors a real scare.

Hanney’s Terence Hilliam top-scored with 48 as his side set Faringdon 2nd 113, and then took 4-23 as the visitors subsided to 88 all out.

Neil Rose’s 138 not out set Hanborough 2nd up for a crushing 234-run victory over Radley 2nd in Division 8.

Rose’s knock saw the hosts close on 257-6, before Radley could muster just 23 in reply.

Kane Lewis was unbeaten on 92 as Ducklington were all out for 247 in their Division 7 clash at East & West Hendred 2nd.

But the target proved more than enough in a 119-run success.

In Division 10, Jason Tomlinson hit an unbeaten 122 as Westcott 2nd passed Charlbury 3rd’s target of 172 to win by five wickets.
