CHIPPING Norton’s Fergus Walkinshaw finished seventh in round nine of the Michelin Ginetta GT4 Super Cup at Thruxton.

His success, which was the FW Motorsport team’s second top-seven finish of the year, came in the final race of the day, after he finished 11th and tenth respectively in the previous two races.

After qualifying in 11th while battling with understeer, he joined the tail-end of the battle for eighth, closing to within 0.8 seconds of Luke Davenport at the end of the 11-lap sprint race for 11th place.

In race two, Walkinshaw had to battle it out with Davenport, before getting the better of him on lap 15 to take tenth.

The final race of the day that proved the most productive for Walkinshaw.

With big improvements and developments gained with the new car’s balance, set-up and tyres, everything came together.

In a thrilling battle that went down to the last chicane, Walkinshaw kept his cool, despite a determined last-attempt pass from Will Burns, to take seventh.

The result put him 14th in the standings ahead of the next round of races at Oulton Park in June.

“I’m really pleased with the team’s progress,” said Walkinshaw.
