OXFORD Saints ran in three touchdowns to continue their bright start to the season with a 19-6 win at Lincolnshire Bombers.

Coming a week after opening the campaign with a 34-6 win on the road against Sandwell Steelers, the second successive win keeps the Saints top of the table.

The visitors put the pressure on early in the game with some impressive running.

James Walters thought he had opened the scoring when he powered into the endzone, but it was ruled out for a penalty in the build-up.

The reprieve did not last long for the Bombers, though, with runningback Mike Oluwole charging up the field for the first score of the day. At the other end, the defensive side of Oxford’s game was firing on all cylinders.

Despite some impressive drives and excellent running from Lincolnshire’s American native Jonathan Culver, the Bombers could not find a way through in the first half.

Instead, Saints extended their lead before the break, with tight end Toby Durant finding himself in space for a straightforward touchdown to make it 13-0. The Bombers finally made their mark on the scoreboard early in the third quarter.

Culver switched to quarterback and threw a deep pass to pick out a teammate in the endzone.

But it could not inspire a comeback and the home side began to tire.

The Saints were able to take advantage when James Walters stormed through the defence to make the game safe.

Lincolnshire finished strongly as they looked for a way back into the game, but the Saints rearguard did well to keep them out.

They are not in action until Saturday, May 17, with a third successive away game, this time at Leicester Falcons.
