GARY Waddock expects more work will be done this summer to improve the playing surface at the Kassam Stadium.

A week ago, United’s players were critical of the pitch after the 1-0 home defeat to York City, which came days after a superb display in winning 2-0 on an excellent deck at Plymouth Argyle.

More than £50,000 was invested by the U’s and fellow tenants London Welsh last summer.

The surface will continue to be used at least once a week, with the rugby club recently agreeing to extend their stay by three years.

Waddock wants to play entertaining football and is keen to have a decent pitch.

He said: “I believe there are plans to do some work on it.

“I’ve had a million and one things to do since I’ve been here and the pitch will come up in conversation over the next couple of weeks with the chairman.

“It doesn’t matter what style you are trying to play you want a nice pitch.

“Come the beginning of the season I’m sure it will be in a good state.”
