JAMES Roberts and Sam Humphreys have been offered professional contracts by Oxford United.

They were informed in one-on-one meetings at the training ground this morning.

Roberts, from Aylesbury, does not turn 18 until the summer, but has been a prolific striker at youth team level, netting 22 goals this season.

Chipping Norton winger Humphreys, 18, has been on target 11 times for Chris Allen's side.

The youth team coach said: "They have both done extremely well.

"Robbo has scored goals ever since he arrived at the club and been our top scorer for the last two years while Sam has been outstanding and very consistent.

"They are both intelligent lads who want to learn and want to work hard and I am sure they will go on to have terrific careers.”

Providing terms are agreed, they join teammate Josh Ashby, who signed a long-term deal in February.

While there was delight for Roberts and Humphreys, the remainder of the second year scholars will not be offered contracts.

It means Josh Hill, Conor Ingram, Duran Martin, James Clarke, Greg Hackett, Jamie Calvin and Marvin Ekpiteta will be released at the end of the season.
