MORE than 500 children, including a team from Northern Ireland, competed in the 22nd Rover Oxford Festival hosted by Oxford Hockey Club at Cokethorpe School, Witney.

Four of the age group winners came from Oxfordshire.

Oxford Hawks took both boys under 12 and 14 competitions, while Wallingford topped the Under 10 A league, beating Oxford on penalties after a 1-1 draw.

But there was joy for the host club, who dominated the Under 8 mixed competition, beating Wall-ingford 4-1 in the final.

Festival organiser Nick Malden said: “It’s fantastic to see so many children taking part in this Olympic sport and that the increase in both numbers and standard demonstrates a continuing legacy from 2012.”
