Tom Melledew hit a hat-trick as Wantage Town took advantage of Ardley United not having a game by thrashing hosts Holyport 6-0 to go top of the Uhlsport Hellenic League Premier Division by two points.

Richie Claydon triggered the goal spree, flicking home Matt Pedder’s great pass in the 28th minute.

Wantage doubled their lead on the stroke of half-time when Claydon was brought down in the penalty area by Holyport skipper Jack Harding, and Melledew fired home the spot-kick.

Melledew struck again three minutes into the second half after another assist from Pedder, and Claydon poked home his second in the 56th minute.

Melledew completed his hat-trick with a curling toe poke into the corner in the 65th minute, and substitute Andy Younie completed the rout on 72 minutes with a deflected effort, which left the keeper stranded.

Mike Kent bagged a brace as Abingdon Town picked up only their second league win of the season with a 4-3 victory at Newbury.

Kalief Madden gave Newbury a fourth-minute lead, but Dan Hunt equalised in the 31st minute, before Kent put Abingdon ahead three minutes later.

Gareth Brown equalised for Newbury in the 51st minute, but Kent’s second and Jack Ross’s effort midway through the half saw Abingdon take charge.

An own goal in the 76th minute reduced Abingdon’s advantage, but they held on.

Oxford City Nomads went down 3-1 at third-placed Ascot United.

Adam Lovegrove gave Nomads a 14th-minute lead, but Leon Yarnie levelled in the 27th minute.

Two goals in as many minutes in the second half sealed Nomads’ fate, with Rob Saunders firing home a 61st-minute penalty, before Arafat Kabuye added to Ascot’s tally.

Abingdon United were beaten 3-1 by Highmoor Ibis at Northcourt Road.

Mitchell Parker’s low volley in the 38th-minute for Highmoor was cancelled out by Graham Edney’s 15th goal of the season on the stroke of half-time.

Sanchez Commock took advantage of hesitancy in the Abingdon defence to restore Highmoor’s lead three minutes into the second half, and Parker’s second on the break nine minutes from time sealed Abingon’s fate.

Shrivenham conceded two late goals to lose 2-1 at Binfield.

Josh Fowler’s 21st-minute strike looked as if it may bring Shrivenham victory, but Brad Brown equalised three minutes from time, before Jamel Johnson grabbed Binfield’s winner in the last minute.

Liam Morbey scored twice as Headington Amateurs stayed second in Division 1 East with a 3-0 win at home to Burnham.

Morbey opened the scoring on the half-hour mark, taking Ben Green’s pass and firing low past the advancing Tom Williams.

Ollie Zaja lobbed a stranded Williams from 15 yards for Headington’s second in the 81st minute, and Morbey bundled in Joe Cook’s left-wing cross from close range a minute from time.

New recruit Ben Curtis scored twice as AFC Hinksey came from behind to beat Rayners Lane 3-1 at Culham Road.

Callum McCarroll gave the visitors a 19th-minute lead, but Hinksey were back on level terms in the 27th minute thanks to Triston Lawrence’s header at the back post.

Paul Spittle, standing in as manager for Kevin McMahon, introduced Curtis and Jelroy Constant in the second half, and it paid off with Curtis poking the ball in, before adding his second.

North Leigh United beat near neighbours Carterton 4-1 in Division 1 West.

George Seacole put North Leigh ahead in the ninth minute, and Jozef Fullerton doubled their advantage 12 minutes later.

Nathan Blackwell made it 3-0 in the 44th minute, and although James Harri pulled one back in the second half, Ryan Oliver wrapped up North Leigh’s victory eight minutes from time.

Andrew Stidder’s double earned Easington Sports a 2-2 draw at home to Lydney Town.

His strikes in the fifth and 50th minutes were sandwiched around Richard Keir’s brace for Lydney in the tenth and 25th minutes.
