OXFORD Sports are favourites to land the Men’s Premier Division title in the Thames Valley Winter League.

A 4-4 draw with leaders Woodstock means that a win or draw for Sports in their final fixture at Portcullis will see them land the title.

Woodstock could have secured the crown with a 7-1 victory, but having been 3-1 behind after the first round of matches, the west Oxfordshire side are now just grateful they still have a chance of glory.

Chris Corfield and Paul Allen beat Sports’ Ak Izrailev and Tom Francis to level the match at 3-3.

Woodstock’s Manoj Gujral and Phil Waller took the first set 7-6 against Ben Coomber and Dave Tuck in the decider, but the Sports duo came back to win the second set 6-4 and leave the honours even.

Sports are on course for a double success, with their ladies’ team top of Division 1 after a 5-3 victory over Woodstock, thanks to the top pair of Cressida Henderson and Maria Karditsas winning all four sets.

In Division 2, Witney and Banbury West End are promoted after a 5-3 win over Cholsey B and 4-4 draw with Faringdon respectively.
