Oxford & District’s Katherine Hawes has won through to the World Indoor Senior Championships ladies singles’ quarter-finals in Jersey today.

Representing England, she will face Wales’s Betty Morgan in the last eight after topping her group with three victories.

She opened up with a 2-0 win over Ireland’s Ann Craig, before beating Wales’s Marion Purcell and Isle of Man’s Muriel Cain by the same score. Hawes won two of her three mixed pairs games, but saw her challenge end in the group stage.

Teaming up with Blackpool Newton Hall’s Mark Dawes, Hawes lost her opener 2-1 to Wales’s Morgan and Chris Lewis, who won all three of their games to top the section.

Hawes and Dawes then posted 2-0 wins over Netherlands’ Elly Dolieslager and Andy Doctor, and Isle of Man’s Cain and Ben Dugdale, but it wasn’t enough to take them through to the last four.
