Hunt admits to nerves ahead of first training session
DAVID Hunt admitted there were a few nerves around the Oxford United squad yesterday ahead of their first training session with head coach Gary Waddock.
With the exception of Scott Davies, no-one within the camp has worked for the ex-QPR and Luton Town midfielder.
The players had no warning about Waddock’s appointment on Saturday and met their new boss yesterday morning.
Hunt predicted there would be an increase in the intensity of training as players try to make a good impression.
He said: “The butterflies are there, obviously.
“You don’t know what he’s going to think and you want to try and impress.
“There’s excitement as well in what’s going to happen. It’s a really good buzz and is great for all the lads.
“It’s good for the lads who haven’t been involved as well because it gives them a fresh start and something to push for. I’m sure the tempo will be there in training.”
Although the full back has not played under Waddock, like the majority of the squad he has faced sides managed by the former Wycombe and Aldershot boss.
He said: “I’ve come up against his teams who were good footballing sides and I know a lot of players who have played under him who can’t speak more highly of him. It’s exciting times for us.”
