WOODSTOCK are set for a showdown with Oxford Sports to settle the Thames Valley Winter League Men’s Premier Division title.

Leaders Woodstock saw their advantage trimmed to three points, after beat Witney 5-3, while second-placed Sports won 6-2 at North Oxford.

To secure their first crown since 1990, Woodstock must beat Sports, who have one match in hand.

The showdown between the top two is on March 29, the same day as Oxford Sports ladies also face Woodstock, probably needing a win to give them a chance of a double in the men’s and ladies’ top divisions.

In Ladies Division 2, Witney managed a 5-3 victory over Mapledurham. But they will have to wait to see if they can secure the title as Cholsey B’s 8-0 win at Woodstock keeps them in contention.

Colston B’s 8-0 whitewash over Wantage D ensures their promotion to Division 4.

ALEX Wingent is hoping to give the county’s senior players more opportunities.

Wingent, a former Wimbledon linesman and the county’s 45 and over captain, has been elected Oxfordshire LTA’s seniors organiser.

He has arranged an open afternoon at Abingdon’s White Horse Leisure & Tennis Centre on Saturday, April 6 (2-6pm).
