OXFORD Hawks’ hopes of making it three wins on the trot in Premier Division 1 of the South League were dashed by Spencer, who ran out 4-3 winners at Banbury Road North on Saturday.

Hawks looked the better side at the start, taking the lead via Drew Blackburn.

The London side had replied twice by the interval and went 3-1 up before Hawks managed a reply when man-of-the-match Matt Wood set up Steve Kelly.

Any hopes of a Hawks comeback were thwarted by Spencer’s fourth goal, although Wood pulled one back before the close.

Oxford University thrashed Milton Keynes 5-0 thanks to Rupert Allison (2), Richard Barlow, Sam Greenbank and an own goal.

Hawks 2nd were celebrating after tasting victory for the first time in 18 attempts in Premier 2. Goals from Dan Andrews (2), Richard Craig and James Gilbert got them off the mark with a 4-3 triumph away to Marlow, but they remain bottom of the table.

Witney came away from Oxfordshire rivals Oxford well beaten 4-1, a result which casts them adrift with Aylesbury at the foot of the Middlesex, Berks, Bucks & Oxon Regional 1 table.

Consistent marksmen Dan Bleach and Dan Smyth scored the goals with two apiece.

Jacob Deacon was on target for Witney, who need a run of good results in the last month of the season if they are to avoid the drop.

Wallingford lost a thrilling derby 4-3 at home to Henley.

Adam Mills in the Wallingford goal kept his team in the game early on, but was beaten three times before the break.

Steve Marks and Eddie Allen pulled it back to 3-2, before Henley added a fourth and Rowan Wheeler completed the scoring with Wallingford’s third. Goals from Winnie Churchill, George Potter, Nich Golding, Hamish Wooding and Oskar Williams gave Wallingford 2nd a 5-2 win away to local rivals Abingdon in Division 2.
