AIDAN Hawtin was held up as an example to all at Oxford United after the winger’s double in midweek.

The 18-year-old netted both goals in a 2-0 win at Thame United, sending the U’s into the Oxfordshire Senior Cup semi-finals.

It delighted his teammates, who have seen Hawtin fight back from two serious knee injuries which have severely hampered his progress.

Chris Allen, United’s youth team boss, took charge of the side at Thame and was delighted to see Hawtin, pictured right, get on the scoresheet.

He said: “Aidan’s a fighter, he’s had almost two years of solid work in the gym and has had bad days where it’s been difficult, but he’s ploughed through it.

“My worst injury was a hamstring where I was out for four or five weeks – he’s had two years in the gym.

“His attitude has been spot-on, and if the lads can take that as the example and add it to their game, it will help them.”
