James Bolton sealed the Oxford Mail Cross Country League vet 40 men’s title with a race to spare after impressing at Cirencester Park.

The Woodstock Harriers athlete won the age group in round four in 34mins 46secs to give himself an unassailable lead in the standings.

With runners’ best three races from four to count for individual titles, England veterans international Bolton’s tally of nine points puts him 17 points clear of Steve Barnes (Newbury).

Oxford City’s Gwyneth Hueter has likewise claimed the vet 55 ladies’ crown.

Hueter finished finished 28th in 30.57, which ensured no other athlete in the age group can overhaul her.

Stewart Thorp (Oxford City) was the first vet 60 man home, finishing 85th in 41.36.

Bryan Vaughan (Woodstock Harriers) was down in 125th with 45.14, but leads the standings.

Vet 50 championship leader Tom Munt (Team Kennett) won the age group on the day after finishing 35th in 38.24, with Oxford’s Brian Green (40.26) next up in 62nd.

Wendy Nicholls (Cirencester) leads Alchester’s Sarah Rendell in the vet 35 standings, but the former must race in the final round to take the crown.

Banbury Harriers’ Ros Kelling, who finished sixth on the day in 27.28, heads the vet 45 ranks, but like Nicholls has only competed twice this season.
