Abingdon United keeper Chris Rackley saved a penalty as they beat AFC Hinksey 3-2 on spot-kicks in the third round of the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup after the tie ended 3-3 after extra-time.
With Abingdon leading 3-2 in the shoot-out, Rackley denied Ryan Curtin to win it for the visitors and provide a relief from their league woes.
In one of the few games completed, due to the wet weather, Curtin gave Division 1 leaders Hinksey the lead with a 13th-minute penalty after defender Jack Bernasconi handled.
Abingdon levelled on 69 minutes when Cochrane slotted home.
Six minutes later, Abingdon went 2-1 up, when Josh Crooks back-heeled past Jon Beames.
However, Jack Dunhall found the bottom corner to set up extra time.
Marley Jackson’s dipping shot found the top corner to put Hinksey 3-2 up, but Dan Heaton struck to set up a nerve-jangling shoot-out.
Hinksey were reduced to ten men when John McMahon was sent off for a foul on John Dent.
Rackley then performed his heroics as Abingdon progressed.
Wantage Town’s home tie with Shrivenham was abandoned at half-time, with the visitors 3-2 up.
Steve Robertson, Dave Coleman and Sam Collier netted for Shrivenham. Jimmy Deabill and Tom Malton was scored for the visitors.
Oxford City Nomads beat Fairford Town 3-2 after extra-time in the second round of the Bluefin Insurance Brokers Supplementary Cup, with goals from Mark Janes, Martin Esmel and Zac McEachran. Henley Town defeated Finchampstead 3-2 after extra time, with goals from Ben Clark, Louis Howell and Graham Sims.
Finchampstead replied via an own goal and a Sean Cahill strike.
In Division 1 West, Letcombe’s home game with North Leigh Res was abandoned after 82 minutes due to a heavy thunderstorm.
North Leigh were leading 3-0 through goals from Scott Gee, Jacob Hughes and George Seacole.
