Joe Roberts achieved a double gold success as Oxfordshire boys dominated the Bedfordshire Under 17 silver tournament in Luton.
Oxon lads captured four medals between them, with Roberts, from Brize Norton, claiming two of them, winning both the singles and doubles titles.
In the singles final, Roberts, the fifth seed, met Dan Blair, from Didcot.
Roberts progressed through four preliminary matches to reach the quarter-finals, where he defeated Jordan Adams, of Sussex.
In the semi-final, he triumphed in three sets against Hampshire’s Alex Horner.
Blair, seeded No 3, defeated the top seed, Henry Prothero, of Wiltshire, in three sets in his exciting last-four clash.
In the final, Roberts beat Blair 15-10, 15-10 to claim his first gold.
Roberts then teamed up with Ashley Garrison, of Witney, in the doubles, for which they were top seeds.
The boys, both pupils at Witney’s Henry Box School, defeated Tim Mooney and Tom Phillips, of Bucks, 15-11, 15-9 to reach the final.
There, they despatched their opponents, Alex Pandya and Tom Owen, of Kent, 15-10, 15-4. Thanks to these displays, all three Oxfordshire players should gain acceptance for the Under 17 National Championships in April.
