Chris Herbert saved a Martin Plumridge penalty as Carterton Town A edged into the last eight of the Oxfordshire John Fathers Junior Shield after a narrow 2-1 home success against Chadlington.

Chris MacNeil fired Carterton ahead before Chadlington had the chance to level from the spot after Plumridge was brought down.

But Herbert performed his heroics by saving Plumridge’s spot-kick low down to his left.

After the break, Chadlington went 2-0 down via an own goal.

Although Richard Ingram pulled a goal back from close range after Plumridge had parried a Tom Cleevely shot, they could not find an equaliser.

Hanborough crashed out following a 3-0 home humbling by Carterton Rangers.

Dan Hall, James Barker and Chris Balfe were on target for the visitors.
