HELLO readers, I hope everyone’s nearly ready for Christmas?

There is no news to report from my end regarding next season, but there have been new stories emerging from the F1 world though.

A big talking point is that Formula 1 is to award double points at the final race of the season from 2014, in an attempt to raise interest in the World Championship.

Why has the change been made?

The FIA claims it is “to maximise focus on the championship until the end of the campaign.”

But would it have stopped Vettel from winning his fourth crown in India? No.

Would it have stopped Red Bull from taking its fourth crown before the season’s end? No.

Would it have stopped certain teams from shifting their focus to 2014 from mid-season? No.

Many people are complaining about the rule change, including Vettel himself.

He was quoted saying: “This is absurd and punishes those who have worked hard for a whole season!”

If the points rule was in place in 2012, Vettel would have lost the championship to Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso.

Two of the last four F1 seasons have been settled with a number of races still remaining.

If the new system had been in place for the last two decades, three world titles would have been won by a driver other than that year’s eventual world champion.

So, you could argue that it could work and could make things more interesting.

However, looking at how the recent seasons have gone, possibly not..

I wish all of you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
