BOXING: Evans-Fry turns on style for convincing win
7:00am Saturday 21st December 2013 in Sport
SUPER middleweight Ciaran Evans-Fry saw off the challenge of Gloucester’s Damien Dinwiddy with a unanimous points decision in Bicester Boxing Club’s annual show at the Oxford Hotel.
Evans-Fry, who serves in the British Army as part of the 23 Pioneer Regiment, based in Bicester, won the first of four two-minute rounds, with a hook combination to the body of his rival.
The home fighter outworked his opponent at the Oxford venue and a three-punch combination at the end of the third round had Dinwiddy in trouble.
Another vicious right floored his rival in the final round and ensured a 40-35 verdict.
“Ciaran showed real dedication in training for this contest,” said Bicester head coach Daza Usher.
“He has been with the club for two years now and in that time has improved tremendously.”
Another win came from welterweight Anthony Miller, who outpointed Shawn Richards, from Aylesbury’s Pegasus Gym.
Early on, Miller withstood looping right hands and wide left hooks, before he started to regularly land his counter right hand.
His three and four-punch combinations were working well and he edged the contest 30-29.
Bicester duo Andrew Prichard (light middleweight) and Adam Morris (middleweight) both scored impressive wins.
Prichard extended his unbea-ten run by winning every round against Darren Allen, while Morris outpointed Robert Mojak.
