Alex Cook, from Chinnor, achieved one of the best results by an Oxfordshire junior in recent years when he won three medals in the Cheltenham Under 15 Gold Star tournament.

The Star events are open only to the top 16 national players in each age group, and Cook ach-ieved a medal in each discipline.

In the singles, he despatched the No 3 seed, Harry Huang (Bedfordshire), Avi Gupta ( Bucks) and Scottish national player Christopher Grimley to reach the final, where he lost to second seed Calum Hemming (Bucks).

Cook followed that silver medal with a bronze in the boys’ doubles with partner, Zach Russ, of Sussex.

But he went all way to the gold with mixed partner, Samodani Wietunge (Surrey).

Their semi-final victory over Huang and Fee Teng Liew was an epic struggle, which finished 19-21, 24-22, 22-20.

Megan Ready, of Long Wittenham, won her second singles gold medal in successive weekends, taking the final at the Stevenage Under 17 Bronze event.

Jamie Cackett, of Abingdon, won a bronze medal for doubles at the Cheltenham Under 15 Bronze event, while James Moreton-Smith and Safia Khi-mji, both of Abingdon, won singles silver medals at the Hertfordshire Under 13 Bronze tournament.

The Oxfordshire Under 17 Shires side kept alive their hopes of reaching the final with a 10-10 draw against Dorset at Bournemouth .

The draw was secured when the pairings of Joe Roberts (Brize Norton) and Ashley Garrison (Witney), and Dan Blair and Tom Leftley (Chalgrove) took all four boys doubles matches.
