RACING: Cantlow collects for Webber

10:00am Saturday 30th November 2013

Cantlow bounced back to form for Banbury trainer Paul Webber to capture the bet365 Open Handicap Chase at Newbury yesterday.

The eight-year-old was well beaten on his reappearance at Wetherby earlier this month.

But the 6-1 chance put that effort well behind him to take the day’s feature race over two and a half miles and the first prize of £31,280.

Tony McCoy brought Webber’s charge to jump into the lead at the last, before holding off Easter Meteor by a length and a quarter, with Grandioso five lengths back in third.

Webber said: “He appreciated the better ground and had the great man on board.”

Cantlow is now 14-1 with Ladbrokes for the December Gold Cup at Cheltenham on December 14.

And Webber added: “He’s entered, and we’ll have a look.”
