Wilder wants a positive reaction from Oxford United
CHRIS Wilder says the reaction of his Oxford United players will determine their level of success this season.
The U’s suffered their third defeat of the season against Bristol Rovers on Saturday, with all the losses coming at home.
However, they have recovered well on both other occasions this season, a factor Wilder believes is crucial if they are to achieve anything.
“We’ve seen yet again the unpredictibility of the league and that nobody has the divine right to win games,” he said.
“We are in the race and the biggest thing is how we react to this.
“We went to Hartlepool and won (after losing at home to Chesterfield) and after (being beaten by) Southend we then put a little run together.
“Chesterfield have come here, played us off the park and now have picked two or three points out of maybe 21.
“It just goes to show.”
The United manager was disappointed by his side’s slow opening.
“We didn’t start at any sort of tempo,” Wilder commented.
“They started better than us, they were quicker to the second ball – and that’s not a tactical thing or anything like that, just a desire to go and upset the home team.
“I thought the support was great though. They tried to lift us right the way through.
“We went for it – changed the shape, went to three centre halves and had a couple of great chances, but didn’t put the ball in the net.
“We had our best period of the game in the second half and within 60 seconds where we should have been at least 2-0 up, they go down the other end and go 1-0 ahead.”
