HEADINGTON School are returning home victorious after picking up two gold medals at the Head of the Schuylkill in Philadelphia, USA.
They won the women’s High School coxed fours and eights races.
The winning Headington eight were nearly four seconds faster than their nearest rivals, while their second crew came tenth in a field of 59.
In the coxed fours, the race was more closely fought, with Headington beating nearest rivals Mount Saint Joseph, who are themselves national champions, by less than a second.
The success followed an impressive showing at the Head of the Charles regatta in Bos-ton a week earlier, when the team had three top-20 finishes and were the fastest non-American boat in each race.
Headington came tenth and 17th in the women’s youth eights from a field of 85 – the only school to get two eights in the top 20.
They were also the top-performing British team in the race.
The coxless quad, competing in the Directors’ Challenge women’s quads came sixth on time and 13th adjusted out of a field of 30.
The regatta was Headington’s first foray into rowing in the United States.
