RUGBY UNION: Millett wraps it up for Chinnor
11:00am Tuesday 29th October 2013 in Sport
CHINNOR pipped Bishop’s Stortford 29-27 at Kingsey Road to end a run of three defeats in National 2 South.
Depleted by injuries and unavailability, they were outscored by four tries to three, but four penalties from centre Will Millett proved the key.
Chinnor lie fifth in a congested table, with just seevn points separating second-placed Cambridge and Shelford, who are tenth.
Millett kicked Chinnor ahead with the first of his penalties, but Stortford stormed back with two tries in two minutes.
Good interplay saw Marcus Cattell bag the first, with Aaron Mahoney setting up Nick Hankin for the second.
Oliver Walker’s conversion made it 12-3 after just six minutes.
Chinnor steadied themselves with a Millett penalty before wing George Blewitt finished a simple passing move in the corner.
The hosts went ahead when scrum half Frank Jones slippd the ball to No 8 Adam Hastings, who crashed over.
Millett converted and it was 23-12 after wing Tristan Corpe jinked his way through for Chinnor’s third try.
Chinnor centre Leo Fielding was sin-binned just before half time and Walker reduced the arrears with a penalty.
Stortford stunned Chinnor with Hankin’s second try just after the interval, but Milett made it 26-20 with a penalty.
On 67 minutes, a try from wing Ross Bird, converted by Walker, put Stortford 27-26 ahead.
But Chinnor did not panic and Millett expertly slotted the winning penalty in a fierce wind.
Stortford pushed hard again, but had to be content with just two bonus points for their afternoon’s efforts.
