Oxford United waiting on Smalley and Mullins
Oxford United have fitness concerns over Johnny Mullins and Deane Smalley for tonight’s home game against Exeter City in Sky Bet League Two.
Mullins was substituted after falling awkwardly on his right ankle during Saturday’s goalless draw at Accrington Stanley.
Smalley did not even get that far, pulling up in the warm-up with pain in one of his knees.
U’s boss Chris Wilder will give the pair every chance to prove their fitness, but admitted they could join winger Alfie Potter (hamstring) on the sidelines this evening.
He said: “We’ll check with both of them late on, but they will be classed as doubtful.
“Alfie will train on Thursday with a view to being involved on Saturday.”
Scott Davies is set to come back into the squad after missing the trip to Lancashire with a minor ankle injury.
It means the U’s could start the game as they finished at Accrington, with David Hunt at right back and Ryan Williams ahead of him on the flank.
Exeter are expected to name the same side which despatched Scunthorpe United 4-0 on Saturday.
They will definitely be without Matt Oakley (ankle) and Danny Butterfield (calf), while Jamie Reid is a doubt as he recovers from a groin strain picked up on duty with Northern Ireland Under 21s.
Oxford Utd: from Clarke, Hunt, Raynes, Wright, Newey, Williams, Whing, Rose, Rigg, Kitson, Constable, Marsh, O’Dowda, Davies, Ruffels, Bevans, Crocombe, Smalley, Mullins.
Exeter City: from Krysiak, Baldwin, Bennett, Coles, Woodman, Keohane, Sercombe, Doherty, Davies, Gow, O’Flynn, Parkin, Gill, Pym, Moore-Taylor, Grimes, Wheeler, Tilson.
THE away allocation for Saturday’s trip to AFC Wimbledon has sold out.
Oxford United will take 852 supporters to Kingsmeadow.
