Bradley Smith had to settle for the 13th quickest time after two rounds of practice for tomorrow’s penultimate round of the European phase of the World Championship campaign at Motorland Aragon.
The Monster Yamaha Tech 3 rider, from Oxfordshire, has happy memories of the track after taking a podium finish in the 2010 125cc race.
He enjoyed a positive start yesterday morning when a lap of 1min 51.263secs placed him tenth.
The 22-year-old, who is looking to consolidate his top-ten World Championship position, improved his pace to a 1.50.944 in the afternoon, but his progress was not reflected on the timesheets as he slipped down to 13th quickest.
Experimenting with a new riding position to improve rear grip that he first tried during a session after the previous round at Misano, Smith was less than 0.5 secs away from the top ten.
“I’m reasonably happy with how the weekend has started but obviously the final position doesn’t truly reflect our potential.”
