ATHLETICS: City duo star in Newcastle
TWO Oxford City athletes enjoyed the spotlight at the BUPA Great North Run in Newcastle.
Darrell Bellinger featured in the elite men’s race, where he clocked 1hr 10mins 8secs for the 13.1-mile course, finishing in 41st place.
Bellinger travelled on the bus to the start with the leading lights such as Mo Farah and Haile Gebrselassie and sat behind winner Kenenisa Bekele.
Competing in the junior 4km race, City clubmate Alex Scrivener was the first girl home in the nine and ten-year-old category.
Scrivener, ten, clocked 16.07 for the undulating course along the banks of the River Tyne to win by 1min 13secs and secure a trophy she has coveted since the age of six.
RADLEY’S Tom Anstice (Gosford Hill School) secured men’s javelin bronze in the Sainsbury’s Schools Games at Sheffield’s Don Valley Stadium with a throw of 55.1m.
HEADINGTON Road Runners finished 33rd out of 54 teams in the Birketts Round Norfolk Relay – a 197-mile 17-stage race, held over two days.
FORMER members of Radley and Oxford City are invited to a reunion on Saturday.
The get-together takes place at All Bar One in Oxford at 7.30pm.
