MOTORSPORT: Powell's lead trimmed after weekend to forget
11:00am Tuesday 10th September 2013 in Sport
CHIPPING Norton racer Alice Powell saw her lead at the top of the F3 Cup whittled down as she crashed out of both races at Snetterton.
Her advantage over Alex Craven is just ten points with four events left.
Powell led the opener after a fast start, but her challenge was halted on lap eight following a tangle with Tristan Cliffe.
The 20-year-old’s Mark Bailey Racing team worked overnight to repair the damage and get the car ready for the second round.
Again Powell got away well, but she spun on cement dust soaking up oil from an accident in a previous race and was then struck by Craven.
The race was halted to remove the championship rivals.
David Scott, who had won the first race, went on to complete a double when it restarted.
Powell, who was left with a bruised knee, tweeted: “A weekend to forget but we will keep working and pushing!”
1 A Powell 325pts, 2 A Craven 315, 3 T Cliffe 299, 4 L Hamilton-Smith 224, 5 D Karaskas 213, 6 M Harrison 203, 7 H Chart 149, 8 N Robinson 115, 9 R Watts 113, 10 D Scott 111.
