FOOTBALL: North Leigh are revved up
10:00am Monday 9th September 2013 in Sport
Clevedon Tn 0
North Leigh 2
(McDonagh 50, Woodley 87)
North Leigh rode their luck in the first half following their late arrival at Clevedon to gain their first away win in Calor League Division 1 South & West.
A long hold up on the M5 after a road accident led to the start being delayed for 15 minutes.
And it wasn’t until the second half that the Millers got into their stride, producing some quality football to take all three points.
They took the lead five minutes after the break when Conor McDonagh received a cross from Aaron Woodley five yards out, and spun round before hammering a shot under goalkeeper Danny Greaves.
Woodley, Andy Gunn and Morgan Williams then all went close, but it wasn’t until the 87th minute that North Leigh wrapped up victory.
Woodley collected a pass in the centre of the box and then shimmied past two defenders before smashing a cross-shot past Greaves.
Clevedon had bossed the opening exchanges.
Matt Thorne fired just over the North Leigh bar, and then had a goalbound shot blocked by skipper Wayne Turk.
Scott Murray, the former Bristol City, Aston Villa and Reading winger, let fly with a shot, which then beat North Leigh’s on-loan keeper, Paul White, but hit the inside of a post and rebounded out for a corner.
North Leigh: White, Hole, Organ, Turk, Westlake, Gunn, Else, Osborne-Ricketts, A Woodley, McDonagh (Walcott 88), Williams (Bowles 73). Subs not used: Sanders, Caton, M Woodley.
