OXFORD City’s men and Radley’s ladies both finished fifth in the final of the Southern Counties Veterans Track & Field League at Ashford, Kent.

Both clubs fielded depleted teams, but battled well to secure some notable victories.

Radley had just eight athletes on show, with vet 60 Lyn Ahmet taking part in 11 events.

Jan Ellacott starred with three individual victories.

The sprinter bagged vet 50 glory in the 100m (14.62secs), 200m (30.25) and 400m (1.07.94).

Kay Reynolds collected a victory double in the vet 35 100m and 200m, clocking 13.95 and 28.59 respectively.

Ellacott also featured in the 4x100m relay, which Radley won in 59.94.

Natasha Mighty triumphed in the vet 35 hammer, where she threw 28.49m.

Epsom & Ewell Harriers took the title on 262 points ,with Radley coming fifth on 189.5.

In the men’s competition, Oxford City’s highlights included victories for Steve Overton, Stewart Thorp and Graham Chapman.

Overton won the vet 50 1,500m in 4mins 48.21secs, while Thorp clinched the vet race over that distance in 5.11.12.

Despite being a vet 50 athlete, Chapman won the vet 35 2,000m walk in 10.27.22.

Team manager John Exley said: “All three races were won by inspiringly strong finishing, following tactical races.”

Southampton took the men’s title on 245 points, with City fifth on 183.
