CYCLE SPEEDWAY: Boaler sixth in national championship

HORSPATH’S Mark Boaler had to be content with joint sixth place in the British Open final at Leicester.
A former national champion, Boaler finished level with Andy Angell (Hull) and Ben Mould (Wednesfield) on 13 points in a contest won by Thomas Reed (Exeter) on 18.
Horspath’s Zac Payne had done well to reach his first national final, but finished joint last with seven points.
Boaler and Payne faced each other in their first heat up against strong opponents Lee Aris (Wednesfield) and Reed, with Boaler scoring two points and Payne one.
In the second race, Boaler picked up a heat win against former two-time British champion Angell, who was excluded.
Boaler stayed strong, picking up a further seven points from his latter rides.
Horspath’s Livvi Horsley was joint ninth in the women’s British Open final at Coventry.
Horsley won heat three en route to a 12-point haul that put her level with Vicky Brown (Sheffield) and Lauren Hookway (Exeter), while champion Lauren Davies (Leicester) bagged 20.
