CRICKET: Costley and Hussain to the fore

OXFORDSHIRE completed their ECB Under 17 County Championship Division 3B campaign with a 30-run victory on first innings against Huntingdonshire at Banbury.
But rain in the final hour of the second day denied Oxon the chance of an outright win, and a possible championship, which instead goes to Buckinghamshire this year.
The visitors put Oxfordshire in on day one, and it seemed a reasonable decision as the hosts lost wickets throughout the day.
Tom Costley continued his fine form with 79, while opener Markus Jeacock fell one short of a half-century.
Down the order, Leo Bethell added some late impetus with a quickfire 30 as Oxon were bowled out for 261 in 59.1 overs.
Huntingdonshire made a good fist of the run chase, led by Jordan Cafferkey’s excellent 59.
But another five-wicket haul for leg-spinner Saim Hussain ensured Oxfordshire dismissed Hunts for 231 to wrap up a first-innings win.
The only chance Oxon had of winning the championship was to force an outright win, so when they batted again, they rattled along at five runs an over to declare on 205-8 in 37 overs.
Tom Condon was the star with 69 from 76 balls, while skipper Andrew Tolson scored 40 at more than a run a ball.
Setting Hunts 236 to win in 42 overs, Oxon quickly got to work at trying to bowl the visitors out to seal maximum points.
But with Hunts struggling on 130-7 with 15 overs remaining, the rain came to force the players off, meaning Oxon had to settle for third place.
