LAURA Watkins remains the lady to beat at Bicester after cruising to her ninth successive Bicester club championship.

Rounds of 76 and 81 saw the one-handicapper finish 26 strokes clear of her nearest challenger.

Vicky Shepherd finished second in the gross competition, but won the nett title on countback from Carly Bosher after both finished on 153.

The men’s gross contest was much more closely contested.

After 36 holes Dan Scourfield finished just three shots ahead of Wayne Dobbins following back-to-back rounds of 75.

A nett 64 in the first round set Jonathon Beever up for victory in the handicap competition, finishing two shots ahead of Jamie King, who pipped Wayne Bosher on count back.

  • CHRIS Heslip ended Shaun Kench’s hopes of a fourth successive Chipping Norton Men’s Club Championship title with two excellent rounds.

The plus-one handicapper shot 68 and 72 to finish four shots ahead of Kench, who had won for the previous three years.

Richard Whiston was third, another four shots back, but it was good enough to give the five-handicapper the best nett score.

Paul Needle (141) was three shots adrift to claim second, just in front of Kench.
