THREE people have been prosecuted and fined as a council tries to crackdown on flytippers.
Faisal Mahmood, of Empress Street, Accrington, has been ordered to pay a £100 fine after a court heard he dumped waste behind a railway fence at the back of Whalley New Road, Blackburn.
Investigators for Blackburn with Darwen Council said evidence found at the scene pointed towards Mr Mahmood, and during an interview under caution he admitted to dumping the bags.
He was also ordered to pay £100 costs and £20 victim surcharge.
In a separate case, Gardian and Simone Turcanu, of Audley Range, Blackburn, were both handed a six-month conditional discharge for not disposing of their rubbish properly.
The council said evidence found in waste at the rear of Longton Street and Audley Range, Blackburn had pointed to the pair.
They were also ordered to pay £400 costs and a £30 victim surcharge.
Councillor Dave Smith, the council’s environmental improvement and sustainability boss, said: “As proven here, we will always look to prosecute anyone found to be up to this most unhygienic and anti-social behaviour.
“Furthermore they will be named and shamed in the local press so I would ask that people please think twice before doing this.”
