BADMINTON: Oxon hit back
10:00am Friday 15th March 2013 in Sport
Oxfordshire Under 13s returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 11-9 victory over Avon at St Helen & St Katharine’s School, Abingdon.
The team of Jamie Cackett, Ethan Rose, Steffan Allen, Jacob Troyano, Safia Khimji, Saania Jayawant, Saffy Gujral and Natalia Mitchell battled for every point.
And it was fitting that it was the girls who secured the vital 11th point, having produced a fantastic effort to win seven of their eight matches.
Meanwhile, Oxfordshire’s Safia Khimji struck double gold in a junior tournament at Bournemouth.
The Abingdon youngster beat Bucks’ Pamela Reyes 11-6, 11-7 in the under 11 singles.
And she then teamed up with Reyes to take the doubles title with an 11-2, 11-4 victory over Eleanor Butler and Lisa Cutin (Bucks).
Woodstock’s Natalia Mitchell won silver in the under 13 doubles, and her brother, Christian, picked up two bronzes at under 11.
