ROWING: Headington's terrific treble

Oarswomen from Headington School achieved a remarkable treble at three of the top early season events in as many days.

Victory in the Schools Head championship women’s eights over the Mortlake-to-Putney course set the ball rolling as Headington crossed the line with a 45-second cushion from Haberdashers, Monmouth.

The following day, four of the successful eight won the women’s J18 quads in the Scullery event for juniors at Eton Dorney.

Incredibly, the eight were in action again in the 320-crew Women’s Head over the Mortlake-to-Putney course 24 hours later, and, with one change in the crew due to illness, won the junior section.

They came 14th overall, the school’s best-ever finishing spot, and also beat the junior time record.

Back at the Schools Head, the boys of Abingdon and St Edward’s, Oxford, finished second and fourth respectively.

Abingdon were knocked from their 2012 top spot by Hampton.

Radley were forced to withdraw due to illness.

Also in the Women’s Head, Wallingford secured 11th place overall and a win in the intermediate 1 class, eight seconds ahead of second-placed Molesey.
