Davids salutes Oxford United ace Wright

Edgar Davids in action for Barnet against United Edgar Davids in action for Barnet against United

OXFORD United’s Jake Wright is one of the best players in npower League Two, according to former Juventus and Barcelona star Edgar Davids.

The ex-Netherlands international came up against the U’s skipper on Tuesday night as Barnet’s player/head coach.

He looked to have helped the Bees to a point, but a goal deep in stoppage time from Michael Raynes earned United a 1-0 win.

Davids, who turned 40 yesterday, felt the result was harsh on the visitors.

He said: “We had some good moments but they are a good side.

“I think they have one of the best players in the league in Jake Wright – he’s a very good player.

“I’m surprised they are as low as they are in the table. If the game had ended as a draw then I think that would have been fair.”

He did pretty well for 40, his passing was better than some of the players we have had over the last couple of seasons.

Expensive i bet?

Age has nothing to do with it Just look at giggs, of course his passing is better he is an ex international and has played for some of the biggest clubs in Europe, what a ridiculous comment! As for having him here, no thanks but I do think this could be a cheeky job application by him.

Why ridiculous, MM? It was great to see his enthusiasm and commitment AND the fact that NOT ONE one of his passes (many of them threaded through tight space over some distance) went astray - particularly impressive on that pitch! He was also perfect at being quietly in the ref's ear all the time - if you don't mind that sort of thing.

Although not an ex international, Dubes has played at the highest level including a Champions league semi final, yet his distribution is awful. Hoof!!

I was impressed with Davids for a 40 year old. First half he was up and down the pitch, second half he sat a lot deeper, but he could still pick a pass.

Dubes was lucky enough to play in a good side, my point is just because he is 40 it does'nt mean he has lost his ability and comparing him to our midfielders is ridiculous which is what BAB did if they were as good as him or had his exprience they would'nt be in this division or with OUFC

You may have a good point, I am sure he has drawn the attention of bigger clubs. For me it's been far and away his best season and he's my player of the season by a long way. That's probably the kiss of death tho (me praising him) so I hope he keeps it up. Shame he can't score!

Martico I saw a lot of his passes not completed. I didn't think he had the best of games. Out muscled by Whingy and he can stay at Banet.
