ATHLETICS: Amblers' Pennington holds on to take title

ALEXANDER Pennington sealed the under 11 boys’ title in the final round of the Oxford Mail Cross Country League at Harwell after making it three wins from four races.

The Abingdon Ambler was pushed hard, but edged out Team Kennet’s James McLaughlin by one second, clocking 4mins 52secs for the 1.2km course.

Radley’s Henry Insley was second in the category.

Pennington was one of four junior champions representing Oxfordshire clubs.

Oxford City’s Nat Jones took the under 15 boys’ crown, with White Horse Harrier Ben Claridge second.

City’s Megan Humphreys took the under 15 girls’ honours by four points from Team Kennet’s Yasmin Ryder.

White Horse Harriers’ Josie Harrison secured the under 17 girls’ prize, with Oxford City’s Elisha Clark runner-up.
