FOOTBALL: Whitehead sinks old mates

FORMER Abingdon United player Ben Whitehead scored against his old club to help Swindon Supermarine to a 2-1 victory in the Evo-Stik Southern League Division 1 South & West.

His cracker put the home side ahead after six minutes, but Abingdon levelled after the break when Toby Newell fired home.

Harry Etheridge restored Supermarine’s lead on 56 minutes and Abingdon’s hopes of a point ended when Tom Melledew was sent off ten minutes from time for kicking out at an opponent.
