HENRY Purdy was delighted with a win and a try on his home debut for England Under 20s.

The 18-year-old Leicester Tigers wing, from Milton-under-Wychwood, touched down in the second half as England thrashed France 40-10 in their Six Nations clash at Worcester.

Purdy, a former Cokethorpe School pupil and Chipping Norton RFC junior, made his debut in England’s 16-15 defeat to Ireland in Athlone.

But he fared better second time around at Sixways as England built on a 6-3 half-time lead to hammer France with five second-half tries.

Purdy’s try came after a good pass from full back Ben Howard, while captain Jack Clifford starred with a hat-trick.

The wing tweeted: “Delighted with the win today. Credit to the boys, we brought it in the second half.”

Meanwhile, Oxford University lock Will Rowlands did not fare as well against the French.

Rowlands was in the England Students side, who lost 22-18 to their French counterparts at Richmond.

He also picked up a knock during the match, which meant he missed the Dark Blues’ clash with the Penguins at Iffley Road last night.

  • TRIES from centres Callum Godfrey and Mark Hughes helped Witney to a 12-5 home victory over Bicester in OBB Colts League Division 1.

Bicester No 8 Ollie Cassidy cancelled out Godfrey’s opener to make it 5-5 at the break, but Hughes’s try, converted by Will Spence, sealed it.
