WALLINGFORD produced some of their best rugby of the season to defeat Olney 18-5 at the Hithercroft.

Olney started well, but were repelled by some tenacious defence.

Wallingford opened the scoring when flanker Tom Hill fed No 8 James Willcox-Jones to crash over for his first try for the club, fly half Will Bishop converting.

Wing Angus Brettell snuffed out an Olney attack and charged 70 metres upfield before being stopped short.

Brettell went over for try No 2 after being fed by Hill, while Olney had a forward sin-binned.

The visitors scored a try after half-time, but Wallingford rallied and two Bishop penalties made it 18-5.

Olney’s fly half was yellow-carded and their late barrage was repelled.

Alchester slipped to a 35-17 defeat in their home clash with Drifters.

Andy Blacklock and Adam White scored tries for the hosts, Tom Miles converting both and adding a penalty.

But tries from Mark Bannister, James Branscombe, Carl Corcoran, Ant Chamberlain and Steve Spencer, all converted by Olly Ashton, sealed Drifters’ victory.

  • WALLINGFORD have given Oxford University Greyhounds a walkover in tonight’s Oxfordshire Cup semi-final.

The Hithercroft club felt they would not be able to name a strong enough side for both that match and Saturday’s crunch league game at home to Tadley.

Greyhounds will now face Chinnor 2nd in the final at Iffley Road on Sunday, April 21.
