TWO late goals gave North Leigh a 2-0 victory over Wimborne in their Evo-Stick Southern League Division 1 South & West clash at Eynsham Park.

The breakthrough came on 77 minutes after a period of sustained attacking play by the Millers involving Michael Alexis, Keiran Sanders, Brian Bowles and Jacob Walcott. Sanders beat a defender on the byline, put in a cross and Declan Shepperd at the far post headed home from close range amid a ruck of players. Wimborne’s Jamie Davidson went close with a cross-shot that flew just wide of the far post, before Sanders clinched victory for North Leigh with a superb goal in the 90th minute. He surged forward on the right, cut inside a defender and lashed an unstoppable left foot drive from the edge of the box into the far corner.

Wimborne’s Micky Hubbard had provided the first effort on goal after ten minutes with a shot which keeper Sam Warrell pushed around a post. Tom Jeffes shot over the home bar, before Andy Caton produced North Leigh’s first attempt with a shot which Jason Harvell to parried away for a corner.

Sanders and Shepperd went close for North Leigh before the break as did Wimborne’s Billy Maybury, who had his shot blocked by a brave save from Warrell.

North Leigh pegged the visitors back early in the second half, and Jon Else flashed a header wide from a Sanders’ cross.

Else and Shepperd had good efforts saved, before North Leigh finished with a flourish to claim victory.
