AN amateur duo from Bicester just missed out on the senior pairs title at the HowDidiDo National Matchplay Championship in Portugal.

David White, who plays off 14, and Ivan Curtis, a 12-handicapper – both from Bicester Golf Club – reached the grand final after coming through regional qualifying rounds last year.

They played five rounds across five different courses in the Algarve, winning three rounds of matchplay golf.

The pair’s title hopes rested on the final match, where a 3 & 1 defeat to David Liptrott and Jack Crompton saw the Lancashire duo finish on top.
