TWO Oxfordshire players are in a 72-man England Under 16 training squad going through their paces at Hartpury College this week.

Abingdon School back Theo Brophy Clews and Shiplake College forward Max Chandler will hope to impress ahead of England’s matches against Italy Under 17 and Wales.

  • FORMER Chinnor flanker Sam Jones was named man-of-the-match as London Wasps upset Aviva Premiership champions Harlequins 17-16 at the Stoop.

Jones, 21, started at openside, having captained Wasps in their previous two LV= Cup matches.

  • BANBURY closed in on the Oxfordshire Under 15 League Division 1 title after a 38-5 win at Bicester.

They are 15 points clear of Wallingford, who can only now match their tally.

Banbury’s backs had the upper hand, with William Hopkins and Caleb Shepherd sbagging try braces.

Forwards Reece Lines and Pascal Hardy also crossed over, while Alexander Bruce kicked four conversions.

Tries from George Capel (2), Dan Brady, Callum O’Shea and Tom Leslie-Turner helped Banbury Under 14s win 29-17 at Buckingham. Jake Manning converted two.
