A vote has been launched to decide which charity will have their logo on Oxford United’s shirts for the rest of the season.

It was revealed last week that Bridle Insurance’s three-year shirt sponsorship deal was coming to an end this summer.

But as a goodwill gesture, the company have decided to donate the space where their logo sits to a charity.

There is a short-list of three causes, and the winner will be decided by a public vote.

The Oxfordshire Community Foundation, Prostate Cancer UK and the Sobell House Hospice are all in the running.

The logo of the winners could appear on the shirts as early as the trip to Plymouth Argyle next Saturday.

Football League rules prevent clubs from changing their shirt sponsors more than once in a season, so the U’s are unable to feature all three charities in the final weeks of the campaign.

But United chairman Ian Lenagan believes even the two who miss out will be helped by the vote.

He said: “All three charities will benefit from the interest that we hope this opportunity generates, and one of them will have a very high profile for the rest of the season.”

Neil Fox, Bridle’s chief operating officer, said: “We have been pleased with the exposure we have received, so it seemed appropriate to utilise our remaining time to provide some valuable exposure to a worthwhile cause.”

Supporters are advised to look into the three charities before making up their mind.
