BADMINTON: County held in Shires thriller
11:00am Friday 8th February 2013 in Sport
OXFORDSHIRE Under 17s were held to a dramatic 10-10 draw by Berkshire in their Shires League clash at Bartholemew School, Eynsham.
They fought back from 9-7 down to lead 10-9 with one match to play, but Berkshire’s Josh Langley and Connor Cummings edged out Oxon’s Joe Roberts and Ashley Garrison 22-24, 21-16, 23-21 to claim the draw.
Earlier, the mixed doubles were halved and Oxon took the boys’ singles 3-1.
But for Oxfordshire’s girls, only Becki Blair managed a singles win, with Edith and Imogen Langford bagging a doubles success.
Harry Brewis and Andy Brockie took both their boys’ doubles ties, but Roberts and Garrison could only win one.
- ABINGDON’S Jamie Cackett won two medals in the under 13 Badminton England bronze tournament at Worcester.
The Larkmead schoolboy bagged boys’ doubles gold with Gloucestershire’s Rory Farwell, defeating Callum Daniels and Daniel Morris, of Warwickshire, 21-13 in the final.
Cackett then lost 21-9 to Welsh No 1 Oliver Stansfield in the boys’ singles final.
