Banbury United manager Edwin Stein has accused his side of a lack of professionalism following their display in their Oxfordshire Senior Cup tie against Kidlington.

The Puritans came from behind to win 2-1, but Stein was furious at his side’s attitude and says he will not tolerate a repeat in tomorrow’s Evo-Stik Southern League Premier Division home game with Gosport Borough.

“It definitely won’t be the same team as Tuesday night (against Gosport),” said Stein. “The players seemed to think they were going to Oxford for a night out, but it was always going to be a difficult game.

“Our players know a lot of their boys and treated as if they were playing their mates and took their foot off the gas.

“I had a few words with the players after the game because I felt we weren’t professional in our approach.

“It’s a shame because up until Tuesday the players have done fantastically well for me, so we have to eradicate the bad performance from Tuesday.

“But someone is going to be throwing their toys out of the pram on Saturday.”

Banbury will give a late fitness test to keeper Warren Carter who missed the game with an elbow injury.

“Saturday is all about how we respond,” added Stein.

Didcot Town manager Gary Elkins is hoping that lightning doesn’t strike twice when they travel to Taunton Town in Division 1 South & West.

On Tuesday, the players travelled to Arlesey Town in the Red Insure Cup fourth round in the Oxford United team coach and suffered a 6-0 thrashing.

“It didn’t bring us much luck on Tuesday and we’ve got the same coach for the West country trip,” said Elkins. “Hopefully we will have a better result.

Elkins added: “I thought the scoreline flattered Arlesey a bit because we had our chances, but didn’t take them.

“But we can’t afford to dwell on it and need to get back on track against Taunton.

“We beat them 3-0 at our place, but that was down to a fantastic second-half performance from us.

“They will be a different proposition this time around.”

With defender Ricky Allaway suspended, new signing from Leiston, Tom Wray, could make his debut, though Joel Meade (thigh) is a doubt.

North Leigh face a trip to Poole Town, while Abingdon United host Merthyr Town.
